O/S Daily Monday 14 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, ground drying up after another dry and sunny day yesterday – was lovely in the sun. No frost. Looking rather cloudy and dreich this morning.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner yesterday was a frozen stuffed chicken breast that I cooked and had bought roasties, and Yorkshires to go with it, I was going to do some veg also, but DH asked if we could have pasta and rice with it instead – so I made egg and veg fried rice and pasta with mushrooms in a creamy sauce – all eaten and enjoyed. Tonight we’ll be changing from the menu plan as there’s food that I bought for the weekend that needs using up – so tonight dinner will be breaded chicken steaks, potato cheese and bacon cakes (I have some mashed potato in the fridge that needs using up – I’m going to cook some bacon cut it up and some grated cheese, mix it all up and then shape them into burger type shapes, bake them in the oven on a baking tray) – I’ll serve them with the chicken, beans and HM coleslaw.

I’m on annual leave at the moment so have quite a “to do” list – the first being to clean the oven, but I was busy when we got home yesterday after being away since Friday morning. I didn’t manage to get the cleaner put on the inside of the oven, so must do that tonight – but today I do have a list of things I need to do and I need to go to town to do several of them. Weekend away was lovely and we were blessed with dry and sunny weather most of the time, but it was really cold especially in the evenings, there was a social evening put on Sat night in a marquee but we’d been out on site getting it ready all Sat morning and from when we arrived on Friday morning, and the work that we were doing we’d got that finished, we decided that after being cold all day, DH especially as he’d been helping laying concrete all day Sat and said when he came back in even though they were moving about he was cold, he came back to the caravan Sat evening (they worked until they got to a point where they could finish and we working under spot lights as it was dark) he got warm and didn’t fancy getting cold again! Several other people did say to us yesterday they went and have never felt so cold, we stayed in our caravan on Fri night and our friends came over and we had a few drinks, and were chatting etc, then Sat night we went to them, and Sat afternoon we watched the rugby, DH was still laying concrete at that point.)

Keep safe and well x

Busy week ahead, going to a concert tonight, not keen on going during the week but should be good anyway.

    Good morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

It's so lovely to have light so early in the morning, and the birds are dinging their wee hearts out.

Yesterday turned into a very mild, if dull, day so I drove down to the Benmore Botanic gardens near Dunoon. There's a huge redwood avenue which has trees 150 years old. I really enjoyed the drive and the walks.

Today I'll go to join the health walk in early afternoon and fit around it washing (perhaps) and online banking.

It's horrible how much dust can be seen when Spring is on the way. I can quite happily not see any during winter, now everywhere needs attention. Not sure I can ignore it all for much longer. It's m even thinking about getting rid of my glass and chrome TV table as it shows the dust up too much - wood would be much better.

Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys a Happy Monday.
  • Morning all. I'm feeling much brighter this morning thank goodness. After much dozing on the sofa yesterday, together with a decent night's sleep, I am rid of the hangover! So, once again, it's never again!! It was lovely when I woke up at 5.15 to lay listening to the Dawn Chorus outside. As always, the blackbirds outsung the rest of the birds.

Today promises to be another lovely day, though not forecast to reach yesterday's 14 deg. I plan on tidying up the back garden, which is an utter disgrace after the winter. And then tackle the patio and the slope to the back garage door. They are green!! Yuk! Whether I will have the energy left to make a start on the front garden and driveway remains to be seen!

I have just got some sc braising steak and gravy from the freezer which I will transform into a stew with the addition of some veg. And later add a few dumplings. That will be Mr TA's lunches for the next couple of days. For dinner I am thinking salmon for Mr TA and smoked haddock for me. Despite a few hiccups, when I have been tempted by offers and yellow stickers, freezer stocks are at last getting down to more manageable proportions and I can almost see what's in there without rummaging. (The store cupboards are still work in progress and stocks never seem to go down!)

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted and needed. Especially DUMPLING and JUDI. HESTER I hope family problems soon start to improve and life gets a bit easier. Take care all xx

I got loads done yesterday, including bottoming out the living room and I still had time to crochet.

Hubby has a cuppa, he's off today as he's working Saturday, actually he's working 3 Saturdays but 2 of them are classed as overtime.

The fish have been fed, packup's have been made, school uniform, including PE kit is ready go, so a quick slurp of tea for me and then I'm off to do the school run.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all.

I heard Hubby's alarm go off this morning but didn't feel him get out of bed.

When I get up I will be shutting all of the windows. Hubby has done nothing but complain since we had the cavity wall insulation that the house is stuffy.

Not sure what's happening today. Eldest wants to visit his Nan but wants to come with me. Not sure if he will turn up. He's not exactly reliable. He's got the day off work so we will see.

Popped in to see Mom to take her some supplies yesterday. It was dinner time and she was being spoon fed. At least she's eating.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Morning everyone,

Dull here at the moment but supposed to brighten up later.

After such a relaxing weekend back to working week with bump, we are going out for lunch today to celebrate the new lady starting, it was hastily explained to me last week that they have waited for her to start before "celebrating" both of us joining the company, rightyho.

We get over to the yard straight after work to see Bill so something quick for tea, mackerel with stir-fry veg, trying to be good during the week.

Have a good day everyone, take care all xx

Good Morning chums, its pretty cloudy at the moment but hopefully not as chilly as yesterday it was lovely to see my DGS Ben when they got home yesterday afternoon and I am so pleased that he is doing well at Uni and he came home with piles of reading to keep him busy as he has some exams in May.He decided to cut his hair as he thought he was getting to 'girly ' looking :) (Gone are the days of long-haired students apparently) and he looks so odd with shorter hair as he has worn it long since he was around 15.But he still has the same old grin and a cuddle for his Gran so nothings changed there :)
I shall have to keep an eye on what's on at the cinema, as he is my film 'buddy' and we both enjoy a good movie. He has inherited my love of the cinema ,and part of his degree involves film so we both get something good out of our outings :):):)

I have my oldest friend coming down this morning for lunch from Dartford ,so there will be a fair bit of coffee partaken and also a good deaal of chatting as well.
We are off to Leek in Staffordshire next month for our weeks spring break so no doubt we will be nattering about where we want to visit while up there. Our cottage is all booked and we are off on the 15th

I hope everyone has a good day and the weather keeps mild. There was a very stiff cold wind blowing here yesterday, which took the edge off the sunshine.

    Have a good Monday chums

    Good morning everyone

Thank you for the well wishes, I feel a lot better today after a fairly peaceful day yesterday. The sun is shining and the birds are singing so it's all good.

Hubby has gone off to work and the girls have just left for school. DD16 had a mad panic this morning as she had a deadline for some of her course-work to be handed in today. She is just like her big sister and leaves everything till the last minute.

I am umming and aaaing about dinner tonight. I think I will make sweet and sour pork as we have some left over from yesterday but I am not really keen on reheated pork so it's hard to drum up some enthusiasm for it. Plus there isn't enough for all of us either so I would have to make something else as well. Oh well, I have the rest of the day to think about it.

I have the second to last load of washing on at the moment and I will load the dishwasher to help keep the kitchen tidy. I am off to find some breakfast and have that wonderful first cup of tea.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. It's bright, the sun keeps coming and going. I have laundry to put out.

Will be doing the Monday clean on my own, OH will want to be in the garden.

Do not know what I ate yesterday, have been chained to the loo since 5 am. Good job we are in a bungalow!!

I found the quilt block I lost yesterday, when I moved the tables in the sewing room I must have put it on the small table and then plonked the small cutting board down on top of it. I have 12 blocks ready to sew.

The beef yesterday was delicious, I actually do not like it too well cooked, but OH will not eat it if it's pink in the middle. I have a loaf I made yesterday and the meat to slice. Will have some of the beef tonight the rest and the bread will be frozen.

    Time to get on.......

    Morning all,

I slept in till 8.30 which was lovely and so needed, just having a cuppa and some breakfast and will then get on with the day, wont be doing too much today but need to have a clear through downstairs and sort the fridge out.

Little Evie has started her season so we need to keep her on the lead for a while, also need to get her booked in for her lady op in about three months.

DD has a driving lesson today so when she gets back we will nip to the shop and take Evie for her walk, then home to watch a film and maybe a snooze on the sofa.

Got a few loads of washing to do too but its a nice bright blowy day so should dry outside.

Right better get on have good days all xx
