Do I ask friend for money back over cancelled holiday?

I'm so angry and upset by this- me and my friend had planned on going on a girls' holiday to Ibiza and this week she has cancelled on me! She said she now doesn't have the money to afford spends but was happy enough to book it two months ago! Personally, I think there is something more behind it but anyway!
We had both paid a deposit-- I had paid the lot of my half and told her before I was going to pay it that I was going to do that, just so I didn't flutter the money away! She has only paid her deposit. She told me to find someone else to go, but Ibiza is so expensive and we go in 4 months- no one wants to save it that quickly and people have now got other holidays booked!
So my question is- do I ask for the lot back? I'm hoping the travel agents will give me the majority, most people have said I just won't get the deposit back. Do I ask her for my deposit back? There is also a cancellation fee- do I ask for that? She is the one who has let me down. She also knows that I have paid for clothes to go. Also for my birthday, my mum bought me clothes and gave me euros. She is really angry too! I also had to turn down a job for this holiday which I know isn't the end of the world, but at the interview they were not keen on me being away for a week.
Also, if someone does decide to take her place, how much is the name change? And do I ask her to pay for that as well?
I don't want to be a money grabber, but I don't want to pay all that money for nothing when she is the one who has let me down.
Thanks! x

If you don't find anyone to go with you, go alone!
Why should you miss out just because she won't go. I'm sure you will meet new people very quickly and won't be alone too long!
Good luck with whatever you decide0 -
Take your mum - she sounds more organised!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

you wont get any of the depoist back, the cancellation fee will be the amount you have paid in depoist.
If you go alone - you would most prob be lumbered with a high single room supplement...
You'd be better trying to get someone to take over the booking xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Depends what type of holiday you have ie true package or low cost flights, accomm and transfers put together. You need to ask all questions to who you booked it with. I'm thinking if she still owes her balance at this late stage you don't have a true package and have booked with someone like on the beach, travel republic etc. If so you may lose more than your deposits, if its low cost carriers you may not even be able to do a name change. As you are lead passenger all responsibility lies with you to cancel or make further payments so your friend has really dropped you in it.0

I had a horrible idea that would be the case! She's selling stuff at the moment and she said anything she makes she will pay me back, but in all honesty it costs that much she might as well just pay for the holiday and come and just chill by the pool! She's really dropped me in it!0

Have you booked a package holiday with Thomson or Thomas Cook, or is it a flight and hotel deal with on the beach or I love holidays ?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

What does your Atol certificate say on it? Package Sale or Flight Plus? Also which agent did you book with?0

Assuming you go ahead and take the holiday, then try to work out how much extra you will have paid for everything to do with the holiday as a result of your friend cancelling. That's what she will owe you IMHO.
The clothes I'm not so sure about though. You still have them and can wear them.
I like the idea somebody had of taking your mum - that would be nice."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0 -
You can always ask her... and she can always say 'no'.0
