Hallo all,

Martin's article recommending the TalkTalk phone/internet 'bundle' seems to be for those that are able to transfer their landline from BT. Having just got a landline, which has to be from BT, I am not able to transfer without paying a £130 ( - I was told. Not 70 - ) fee to buy out the contract. Added to the £20.95 per month for TalkTalk's Talk3 option (which gives free calls all day to landlines + some international calls cheaper to certain countries) - I work out a monthly total (before any calls have been made) of £31.78 for TalkTalk Talk3's option, with the cost of buying out of the BT contract added. I think the figures are about right but it's all from memory.

Is this still the cheapest?

In addition I see many voices on the Forum advocating other routes: - sticking with the BT landline and getting cheap calls and broadband with other suppliers. Can anyone fill me on on this or point me to the relevant postings?

The termination fee is a maximum of £70 if you installed the exchange line after May 1st of this year. See the extract from BT's Price List below:

Early Termination Charges for Residential PSTN Lines

If the customer terminates their agreement for a residential PSTN line before the end of the 12 month minimum period the customer will pay a charge for ending the agreement early, by way of compensation to BT. The charge for ending any service for either a new line or a line that you take over after the 1st May 2007, is the lower amount of either £70.00(inc VAT) or the total of the monthly line rental fees left in the minimum period.

I can't say what's the cheapest deal available but I think the one we have is pretty good.
We pay £10.50 per month to BT for the landline on Option 1
We pay £19.99 per month to Tiscal for anytime broadband and free anytime calls local, national, and 10 international routes including USA Canada and Australia also free mobile calls anytime to USA and Canada.
I think this is hard to beat but I'm sure someone will tell me otherwisw.

It's about £10 too much really. With TalkTalk you'd get all of that for £20.49 per month.
