But he doesnt want another phone, he was asking what his likelihood was of being accepted for a contract when he is 18, not if a Samsung Galaxy S5 was the better option than an iPhone 7 because its cheaper.
Cut him some slack, its up to him.0 -

Exactly I was asking for the likelihood of acceptance and not what phones to compare. I will try for one in January, the contract I have at the moment which is in my mums name is due for an upgrade in April 2017 so I can still get a new phone even if I don't get accepted.
Also if I don't get accepted immediately for a contract phone, I would be offered a contract SIM card and I would actually take up this option and obviously 3-6 months later they would then offer me a phone contract, I wouldn't be using the SIM card but I would obviously pay for it so it would just build up my credit.
Thank you0 -

It seems you are after the credit history and hoping to get an expensive phone on contract to get there. Contract phones are not the most money saving option unless you are a heavy phone user maxing out useage of texts, data, calls. If your current phone is still functional, you could always pick a decent sim only plan to suit your needs and save the balance towards buying a new phone out of contract. That way you have the option of picking an unlocked phone whenever your desired phone is available for the right price, and also more flexibility changing sim only contract plans as the longest is usually 12 months. Overall it will be a cheaper option compared to being locked into a phone contract for 24 months with the same phone. You get the credit building bit with a sim only monthly plan too.
