I can't disagree with anything in that post of yours Adrian - I could have cancelled my policy, and just hung on to the certificate - (but of course I didn't) - so realistically there is nothing that can be done except keep on at Allianz to get the database updated.

This could be a long haul.

An insurance certificate is utterly worthless.

Somebody may have taken out a policy, been emailed the PDF certificate, then cancelled the policy in the 14-day cooling off period. Or just not bothered paying the next month's premium and had the policy cancelled.

Given insurers have a legal responsibility to make sure MID is accurately updated...

I'd lay odds that, for every genuine error, there's several uninsured scrotes lying their backsides off.

Bearing in mind the MID is not 100% accurate, that if you produce a relevant Certificate and the Police subsequently impound your vehicle, then the police have acted unlawfully.

An Insurance Certificate is a Legal Document, it supersedes the MID database

If downloaded from the Insurer's website and printed out or stored on your phone then yes.

The RTA has been amended to show that in a digital age, it's acceptable to download / email certificates

Well if they can confirm that is what has happened with the insurers then they impound the vehicle. If it is outside of office hours and they can't then they should give the driver the benefit of the doubt and send/him her on their way.

Depends if they find the driver credible or not.

Why is proof of ID going to make them believe it's not a fake?

Policy dictates they can't seize the vehicle if he produces proof of insurance, so he'll be left to drive off and if they don't believe him they'll need to phone the insurance company or MIB during office hours.

If they know who you are, they can always prosecute you later if later enquiries find no insurance, so can give you the benefit of the doubt and let you go on your way. They can also run a check on the photo card license to confirm it's validity 24/7

Yes - this was resolved/clarified a couple of years back. The threads with more detail are here if you search. A home printed copy, or even a copy saved on your phone/device is quite acceptable.

we had this problem with multi bike policies by red star or someone a few years ago , it was only allowing the first bike on the policy to show.

the fault is/was down to the insurance company , and they were fined for this

That's it done - the MID site now shows me as being insured. :T

    Excellent service from Allianz?

It took 11 days for my insurance status to be corrected. :(
