Hey guys

Travel down the M5 between junction 4a and 6 a lot.

There are average speed cameras N and S........upon travelling south just after J5 there is 1 camera then after about 1/2-3/4 mile there is the national speed limit sign, but there are 3 more cameras after that that have the NOT IN USE sign and have had that for the last 2 months. While I was away last week for a few days upon returning they had removed the NOT IN USE signs and extended the 50mph signs for the remaining cameras.......However I did not know this,.......I passed the last camera as I thought after J5 and sped up to around 65mph expecting to see the national speed limit sign coming up but didn't......upon seeing a 50mph sign and a camera coming up I slowed back down to 50 before hitting the next camera and i slowed to probably 40-45 as i went through the last one before my exit.

What are my chances of getting done?

Probably fairly low, your speedo is likely to over estimate your speed, you had to accelerate after what you thought was the last camera and you decelerated before the next one. Add on that they normally set the trigger above the actual limit, maybe +10% + 2mph seems to ring a bell.

They may not even activate them immediately until people like you have had a chance to realise the limit's changed. The idea is for you to slow down, not to get lots of fine money.

That's why they'll be left on for the Easter weekend when the workforce have knocked off for four days then.

you say slowed down for the camera, what did you do between the cameras? i presume maintained the speed from previous camera? if so your average speed between first 2 will fall. in my car 65 on speedo means about 60/61 on a gps, so you may not have been going as quick as you thought to begin with.

In my understanding the cameras measure your average speed by timing you from one to the next? I say this as someone i know got a fine on the M6 set up as they thought they measured your average speed that you were photographed at, so sat at 70, slowed to 50 for camera, sped up again, slowed for camera... etc etc...

That is what your average speed is. But you don't know which pairs of cameras are used to calculate average speeds. It can be any pair of cameras, not just one set and then the next one.

They are an idiot if they can't work out how average speed cameras work and deserve the punishment.
