New shower 3 months old not turning on every time it's turned on.

Hoping I can get some advice from someone who knows about plumbing. I had a new shower fitted on Dec'18th 2015. We noticed about a month or so after new shower fitted that the shower did not always come on when turned on. Then we have to findle with it turning it on & off. to get it started. It's a Mira Atom ERD Chrome Thermostic mixer shower. It is an intermitten problem. I called MIRA who were great. I told them the plumber who fitted shower is coming back. They gave me a list of checks that the plumber should do and if I still have the problem they have offered to come & see what the issue is for me. Because the shower has a 5 year guarantee
The checks they asked the plumber to do
1. Check the water supply
2. Check filters are clear
3. Make sure flow control is tight to vault
When the plumber came & I told him the checks that Mira said he should do. He said I know what the problem is you need a new pump. The pump was there before with no problems. It's a Showermate 1.4 Bar Twin it's about 12 years old.
My concern is that I still have a leak from when the original job was done in my kitchen which had been fixed alledgelly already. Only to my having a mini flood in my kitchen this morning. What I need to know is would the shower not turning on be a problem which requires a new pump? (They undercharged for the original job & I suspect they may be trying to recoup some additional costs from me). I did not have this problem before the new shower was fitted. Also could someone recommend if I need one a good pump. Also I have asked that when they come back to fix the leak that they do the checks that Mira originally asked them to do. I read somewhere today that limescale can clog up the filer if you live in a hard water area which I do. I am a disabled woman living alone so not sure if I am being mugged off. I would really appreciate some advice on the issues I have raised above. Also what would be the signs that you need a new pump? Because this was said without even looking at the pump. Hellllllllppppp please.

What is the flow rate like when it's working ?
Does it switch on every time if you lower the handset below the height of the Mira valve ?
Your shower pump will have flow switches on it & they do go wrong, if it's 12 yrs old it's prob not cost effective to replace them even if they are availableI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
