You are making critical assumptions about what I did without knowing what i actually did.

Of course I checked it with the original supplier. They told me to contact SP, who denied the ET for months before admitting they could produce no evidence of the transfer.

I did not cancel the payments because I did not notice them. They had a real nerve taking my money without authorisation.

I am sorry but your original post does not make it clear what you did and didn't do. If I had a contract with 'X" and found that 'Y' was billing me, I would direct all my attention at the supplier that my contract is with, and I would have invoked the DD Guarantee to claim all my money back from 'Y'. You should also have asked your original supplier to invoke The Erroneous Transfer Code which has clear obligations written within it.

If 'Y' was dragging its feet, then why didn't you just initiate a switch back to 'X'?

Getting back to your original question, £50 is reasonable compensation. That said, it is clear that neither supplier wants this matter flagged up to Ofgem as an Erroneous Transfer - hence the dragging of feet.

Do you not check your bank account? if you did you should have noticed that there wasn't as much money in there as you'd expected and that SP was taking out a direct debit.

I'd certainly notice if an extra £60-£80 or even more was coming out every month - it soon racks up quite a big hole in the finances

Of course I check it, I just didn't notice it immediately. Being partially sighted does not help.

A mistake has occurred. It will now be corrected and hence you will be put back in the same position you would have been in had that mistake not occurred. You will receive an additional £50 as a gesture of goodwill / to cover your inconvenience.

In what way, and by whom do you think that you could be found entitled to be awarded anything further?

Personally I think you should take the money as you are unlikely to get anymore should you "pursue" this matter.
