Short term car insurance

I recently had my car insurance canelled by Hastings direct, through no fault of my own. This has left me quite unexpectedly looking for new car insurance. My problem is i turn 20 in two weeks and my cheapest quote just now as a 19 year old is over a £1000, however soon as i turn 20 it drops magically to £700 odds. Obviously im not really wanting to pay an extra £300 for two weeks driving, so was wondering if there was any sort of short term insurance poilcys available? Most companies i find are unwilling to offer daily insurance to anyone under 21.... if anyone has any ideas on how i could get cover for 15 days it would be hugely appreciated!

Use the bus for 15 days if at all possible? Get a lift off someone? Ask someone to be your private taxi for £150? ;)

I'm pretty sure you won't find anything that'll give short term insurance for under 21s, I've looked before :(

Set up a policy then cancel it after two weeks under the 14-day cooling off period. Then set another one up. The may be a problem in terms of cashflow though in getting refund from first insurer in time to set up second policy.

Hi - try ecarinsurance pay as you go.You will have to take a months cover but at 19/20 at least it is available to you.

Hope this saves you some folding!

Im considering doing just that actually. I figured they might try hold up my deposit but untill i get that back im pretty sure i could find the money for another one somehow!

My only concern is how much cancellation fees will i have to pay? , if any? Do i have the right ot cancel it free of charge within 14 days. This may be specific to some policys so i may well have to carefully study the samll print!

Also will my insurers inform other compaines of this cancellation and will it affect future policys?

    Cheers for everyones responses.
  • You'll have to pay for the insurance you use (it won't be free by any means) and probably a cancellation charge as well.

I'm not sure if that information is put on the Motor Insurer's Database, or whether it would have an effect. Normally companies just want to know if another company has ever cancelled your insurance.

I figured it would be based on some sort of pro rata basis, i.e if my policy was £365 a year they would charge me a £1 for evey day was covered. It's the cancellation bit im worried about. im sure some companies give you a week, some two, to cancel free of charge?
