Frustrated with rental agencies ... is this normal?

It's only common courtesy (and usually part of your tenancy agreement) to have at least 24 hours notice of a viewing or landlord visit. :rolleyes:0

in my experience thereis only one way to get there attention and it requires extra effort. Unfortunately they are only interested in one thing and that is a quick rent. You need to go into all of them and talk directly to them about what you want. I found this to be the only way to do it, you will usually find somewhere suitable pretty quickly this way. However. I go so annoyed with them I have just bought a place. I took the above advice and found a property. Paid the deposit, a week and a half later the agent phoned back to say the landllord has rented it to someone else!!! got my money back and found another (another half day with the agents) paid the deposit and was then told 2 days later the landlord wanted to postpone the rent date by two weeks. I was extremely annoyed by this point, took it out on the agent and bought a place.
The point to this thread. YOu need to meet them face to face (if you have time) as they will favour you over someone on the phone. They will ask you a lot of questions, so don't be afraid to quiz them about there relationship with the landlord as if like me you find it is non existent I can assure you it is a lot more annoying than them not returning calls

Ps - if there are any agents reading this please take on board, when you say something to someone who is moving house, your words and actions will have consequences on that individuals life and short to medium term decision making processes. Honesty is the best policy etc0 -

I don't disagree, but at the end of a tenancy when the existing tenant knows they are moving out, I would have thought they could be just a little flexible. Twenty-four hours notice is to be expected, so why make a fuss?
And, surely, if there's an agent accompanying prospective new tenants, then the existing tenant does not need to be present for the viewing?
Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
