Remortgage with existing lender

Hi,
I've had a tracker mortgage with HSBC for the past three years or so now, and finally think it's about time I moved onto a fixed rate.
However, a year ago I went back into full time education as a University student. My only form of income is a guaranteed bursary for the next two years and a small student loan. My wife is also named on the mortgage and she is in full time employment. We've never struggled to make any mortgage payments.
If I stayed with HSBC, do I in effect have to 'apply' for another mortgage product? I would imagine student bursaries are excluded from their lending criteria as a form of income, so I was wondering whether I'd just be accepted as an existing borrower with them, or whether I could be rejected with my circumstances having changed since I took out my current mortgage? Does anyone know?
Many thanks
Pete

You are asking for a customer retention product, not a remortgage.
