First job, 0TW1 tax code...what's it mean?

I have googled this but still none the wiser!! So I started my first job, got my pay and it is tax code 0TW1, and I paid £156.80 tax on a total gross of £830.43.
A friend said this is a emergency tax code and I would need to change it.....how do I do this and how much should I have been taxed?
Sorry if my question sounds silly, this is all new to me and I truly haven't a clue!

Given that you would not have had a P45 to give your employer, I assume you filled out a new starters checklist which confirmed this was your only job...is that correct?
How long ago did you submit this? It may be that correct code did not make it from HMRC to employer in time for the payroll cutoff0 -
First page in a Google search - https://www.gov.uk/tax-codes/letters-in-your-tax-code-what-they-mean
What are your circumstances? You say this is your first job, where you on any benefits beforehand eg JSA? If so did you get a P45 from them and give it to your employer?
If no income or benefits before working, did your employer ask you to complete a starter checklist?
0T code is usually used when your employer hasn't been able to get you to complete a starter checklist or not before the payroll deadline.0 -

phone HMRC tomorrow 8am (or earlier) and explain your circumstances
have you payslip to hand
if this is your first job and you have received no benefits then you should be on 1060L : there may be time to get the code corrected for your next payroll run rather than having to reclaim the money next tax year (April)0 -
If it's your first job then the chances are you shouldn't have paid any tax at all. If you are paid again before April 5th then it may get sorted out in that pay (you should get the £156.80 refunded) but if not then you'll need to contact HMRC to get it back.0
