Is my meter faulty
Options
Hi all,
I live in a 3 bed semi with my partner & i think theres something strange going on.
When we moved in march 2015 we didnt really have any idea how much electric/gas we would be using so we estimated and went with Npower. Theyve recently put my Direct debit up to £120 a month. I work 9-5 monday-friday and so does my partner so unsure why we are getting such high readings and especially since march last year. We dont use any electric heaters only gas. the oven is electric & we had an electric shower installed in august. Here is my usage from npowers website I understand that the price will fluctuate for gas around winter but I think it still seems quite high ?
Any help would be appriciated. or maybe this is just the norm ?

The first questions - are you bills based on ACTUAL readings ; are you proving monthly readings ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
-
Second question, what was your DD before they put it up to £1200
-
Third question:
Which tariff are you on and what prices does the latest bill use for gas, electricity and standing charges?0 -
My theory - a very low initial DD and the supplier is playing catchup.
Did you have a annual consumption review letter ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Just looking at the graphs it seems to me that there aren't many actual readings being input - I'd have expected a bit of an increase when the electric shower went in (unless it doesn't actually get used very much). Gas looks a bit low for the summer as well.
As said above a lot more information on actual meter readings, do they correspond with the bills and info on the tariff - is it a standard tariff or have they been moved from a fixed to standard without actually noticing.
Looks like a classic case of not actually knowing what's being used and then getting a wake up when the big bill arrives.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
How did you get the graph for 2016? Perhaps your calendar is ahead of mine.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

I guess that it's an estimate made by nPower.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

The graphs seem to show that it's just the gas that has gone up. I had a similar issue and realised it was to do with the imperial v metric calculation formula they use. If you have a metric gas meter it could be that they're still billing you on the imperial formula which would artificially inflate your bill by x2.83.0

Actual or estimated is the question that needs to be addressed? That said, 750/800kWhs for gas in December is modest by any standards. It would cost me about £25!
The OP is confusing price and cost. The price hasn't gone up but as you have used more gas the cost to you has increased.
Please post the actual meter readings given to NPower in March 2015 and the readings today with your tariff and some nice soul will check your annual consumption and cost for the past year.
Like others I am guessing that your DD has increased because you have underpaid for the past 12 months. It can look a lot worse than it is. For example, your DD was set at £60 but it should have been £90. On annual review, it has been increased to £120. £30 of this increase is to cover old debt and £30 is to pay for your usage (plus £60) for the coming year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I have an electric cooker but gas heating and notice that electricity usage is fairly constant throughout the year, but gas goes up over the autumn-winter months.
I only usually send in readings every three months, but the graphs use estimated readings to give month by month 'readings'.0
