Nhs dental charges penalty notice

  • That honest mistake costs the NHS millions. As I used to issue those charges I've heard all the defences. The correct procedure is that unless you are 100% sure you have a qualifying benefit you should pay the NHS charge to the dentist. If on subsequent investigation you discover you need not have paid you can apply for a refund via an HC5 form using the NHS receipt given to you.
  • I work for a DCA whom collects NHSBSA penalty charges.

Tax credits only entitle you to free treatment if you also have a Tax Credit Exemption Certificate.

The staff at the dental practice are not qualified to advise if you’re entitled to free treatment, as the patient the responsibility lies with yourself to ensure you are making a correct declaration at the time of the treatment.

Pay the penalty and learn from your mistake.

  • Also just as a note, now you’ve had the penalty charge letter if you don’t pay it within 28 days a surcharge will be added which is upto 50% of the initial amount.

Since the OP was originally posted in March 2016, I think those 28 days have long past...
