Cash to Barclaycard

I don't bank with Barclays but I do have a Barclaycard. Can I go into a branch of Barclays with the card and pay cash over the counter off the balance to save me paying it into my bank?

  • A quick check on the Barclaycard website would have given you the answer - yes you can.

    Yes you can.

It depends on which branch you go to, and furthermore how much of a jobsworth the cashier has decided to be, but they can technically decline to serve anybody at the counter who isn't a Barclays *current account* holder. But chances are they will serve you, and can credit money to your account using your card, the giro pay-in slip from your bill, or just the 16-digit Barclaycard number if you happen to have it written down.

There are plenty of alternative channels too. You can use an internal ATM to scan your paper bill and pay from any debit card (doesn't have to be Barclays). You can also pay from any account, Barclays or otherwise, using the Barclaycard app. You can call the customer services number on the reverse of the Barclaycard to make a card payment over the phone, or set up a direct debit. Lastly, many branches now have self-service machines that will accept Barclaycard payments with a cheque and/or cash, and the branches that don't yet have these machines will have deposit envelopes allowing you to do the same. So, possibly consider one of those options before joining a long queue for the cashiers.

I am selling my car for cash and rather than have to pay it into one bank and then transfer it I would rather walk in and pay it direct as I am passing.
