Windows 7 updates includes Windows 10 upgrade

I went to do some updates on my Windows 7 PC and the Windows 10 upgrade was one of them!

I've got my settings to inform me of updates but let me choose to install them; I'm not sure if it would have just gone ahead if I'd set automatic updates?

I've now hidden that update, so hopefully it won't appear again...

Sorry to have to tell you but even if it is hidden it will still keep coming back and trying to download.

The answer is to download 'GWX Control Panel' to stop it.

Thanks for that piece of advice.

Our work place office back computer kept appearing with the Windows 10 prompt. Uninstalled the KB update and restarted the machine.

When Windows Update refreshed I "hid" the update and b**ger me that icon in the tray was back with a vengeance!

(NB. I was talking about the update in Windows update, not the Windows 10 icon in the taskbar notification area.)

If the KB3035583 has been installed then you should not, indeed would not be able to hide it. You will have to Restore to a time before you installed that update, then, next time you check for updates, it is a recommended not important update and you can hide it BUT as others have said it will keep coming back!! Apologies if you have already carried out a restore.
  • Just go to control panel then updates. .click do not download updates.

I have the "tell me but don't download option" set.
  • In any other scenario the forced Win10 'upgrade' would be classed as Bugware/Spyware.

That's not true. I installed all the adware updates provided by Microsoft and uninstalled them. There was no need to use any kind of restoration method.

I don't even have System Restore enabled on my Windows machines as I have never once found it useful, and on several occasions it just caused problems.

I stand corrected with regard to having to use restore. I did and it seems I wasted my time. However, restore has proved useful to me on other occasions.
