You've got what you wanted, whats the point in pushing for redress ? Most banks would give the same response about keeping stuff for 6 years. You just managed to find someone in a branch who had the time to find them for you. Move on.0

Probably the right answer. Used to working in banking in various departments, retail, back office and a stint in head office too and what shocked me was that those in head office aren't really used to working the computer systems - those related to everyday banking.
At the bank I worked for there was multiple ways of locating a customer - account number(s), address (current/old), DOB and name etc. And, then you could locate archived systems for customers using another set of search parameters. Which is why branch network would get multiple requests from head office to locate customer data, because those staff didn't know how. Maybe Barclays need to add that to their procedures - and you could suggest it.
But it was worth remembering that during 1983-86 the bank did went 'digital' and started storing data on computer systems so you didn't always get info on customers pre-1983.0
