Flights/ Rail tickets should present no problem as you pay per seat.
Look for hotels that charge per room rather than per adult. Don't know whether you intend to travel abroad or in the UK.

There are companies like "solo holidays" www.solosholidays.co.uk but I think you still end up paying more cos you are single. Hotels dont like us singles because we use the facallities half as much!

Dont know where you want to go, or how old you are, but there are LOTS of companies out there than dont charge supplement if you are prepared to share with someone of the same sex, but often end up in your own room anyway.

    try

    thanks for the tips !

I'm in my 20s and want to go somewhere warm which has a bit of life to it (so not too quiet) where there's some culture and things to visit in the day, and a beach would be nice too.

Having never travelled alone was not too sure where to begin, but now I have a better idea.

Since you are in your 20s, the companies I selected would be perfect for you as their age group is about 18-35, but tends to be a few youngsters and the rest mid 20s - 35.

I have used all 3 companies, with Contiki being more party orientated (but still seeing the sights) and the other two for far flung destinations but had a whole lot of fun on them too !

Hope you find a good trip !

    Hi,

going on your own is a lot easier than you think, but it does take some looking around. It is still worth asking the tour operators if they will undersell the room as with some late deals they may not add a supplement if its outside peak season.

Otherwise DIY - search for a flight, hotel and transfer and book off the internet.

I find https://www.holidaytruths.co.uk an excellent site for information, reviews and advise and a forum to ask others.

I have used https://www.alpharooms.co.uk and https://www.wintersunshineholidays.co.uk to book accomodation and https://www.solmelia.com do very competitive single rates all with no problem.

But do consider the transfer from Airport to Hotel, this I find the hardest part needing research, but there are buses! and taxis arent too expensive if the airport is close and some tour Ops still let you book a transfer coach. I have been to Majorca, Salou, Tenerife, Benidorm, Gran Canaria all at prices far cheaper than stopping in this country, all at some excellent hotels, close to the beach and all the entertainment I need.

Enjoy, once you have done it you wonder why you never arranged it before.

Have you looked at staying in hostels? They are great places to meet like minded people, especially if you are on your own.

    thanks guys

Some good stuff there, my eventual plan is to spend a year seeing the world, and I figured the best way is to test the water is to have a short break on my own.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I went to Faro on my own and just booked the flight, and did a room booking from the Lonely Planet Guide. Wasn't too bad, was a while ago but everyone was very friendly and I didn't get too much grief. Albufeira is the main tourist trap from there. Tavira is lovely, or was, it has been a few years since I visited but it was very nice, good restaurants too and cheap. Lot better than the touristy trap places like Albufeira and Quarteira. I also visited Quarteira beach one day and it was totally deserted, had whole beach to myself and the weather was glorious, mind you it was October. Had a nice time and it was all on my own, I find that travelling with other people can sometimes be a hindrance, that's just me though. Good Luck on your trips/travels.

If you are planning on trying out this short break as a "dry run" I would say book your flights and accomodation seperately and try and stay at places like hostels.

You might try visiting Lonely Planet's message board called Thorn Tree for accomodation advice for "independant" travellers.

Also, for what it's worth, when I travelled on my own for a year I loved it, met so many people, did so many things.
