Crossrail 2

I see Crossrail 2 has been given the independent assessment endorsement, all but approved?

Wood Green prices to the moon!

My station also falls on the CR2 route, so I will have a direct link to Wood Green. I assume that means my house will be worth an automatic 43.2% more?

  • I fancy them adding the Hertfordshire extension, up to Watford and beyond. Yay, I could be at Heathrow 16 minutes quicker!

It sounds like the SE is riding the Wood Green ripple. Up in t' grim north most people think the Wood Green Ripple is a fancy Southern ice cream.
  • Will there be "Barnett consequentials" from the estimated 27-32 billion cost?

If so, great, if not, it's a disgusting waste of public money......:D

By the time 2035 comes around transport could be quite different.
Crossrail 2 probably makes sense but not HS2

The big tech companies are working on self drive cars.

Tesla looks interested in VTOL jets. Add autopilot and make them 1-5 passengers and you have flying cars that could land in your garden to pick you up and land at your office roof to drop you off. In many ways the software of that would be easier than road driving but the hardware is further away

    @cells,

Exactly. My post was rather tongue in cheek. I just find it very depressing that we're still planning to be travelling by slow crowded rail in 2033 when this is scheduled to be completed.

Well we have to go 3D for transport in dense cities. That means either tunnels or flying cars. Since the latter doesn't exist its tunnels for now.

My solution would be to knock down most of Hackney Islington and Tower Hamlets and rebuild so each of those borough's is home to a million residents and 400k flats each. Have the people close to work rather than build a new train line to bring them in from 5-50 miles away

Or who knows maybe those silly electric hover boards will catch on. Speed them up to 10 miles per hour and get rid of cars within the A406 and Bob's your mothers brother

The world will look very different - there will be new solutions and new problems that we might find difficult to comprehend today. We don't need to solve the problems of 2216 in 2016.

There certainly will; the commute from Barnet to Central London will be 11 minutes and 8 seconds quicker.

Firstly the link won't be complete until the mid 2030s at the earliest.

Secondly someone has to find the £32bn to pay for it - it's doesn't come cheap

And doesn't this report suggest the link to Wood Green and New Southgate be delayed to save money. The route to Tottenham and up to Stansted is the priority.

So the people of Wood Green may have rather a long wait - 20 years if ever to see Crossrail 2. If you are happy to wait that long fine - at least you will be able to use your freedom pass on the service as most of us will be retired by the time it's built. And the uplift in prices will fund your care home costs and more!
