dh has been getting the train to and from work this past week with the view to possibly taking his car off the road which in turn will save us at least £60 per month. Whilst the money saving is good it's more his stress levels as coming home from work the traffic is horrendous.
Anyway I digress.
He looked out of the window this morning to see which colour bin had to go out only to discover some thieving !!!!!! has pinched the registration plates from his car.
Cue a call to the police to report the stolen (using the non emergency number). He has a crime number for in case he gets pulled up whilst driving as they have a marker out now.
I'm now worried waiting for speeding fines to start coming through the post or police to come knocking as the plates obviously are going to be used for illegal activities.

Its good that you reported it and got a crime numbergot as any illegal activity involvement this will help.

Maybe worth letting DVLA know also just in case?

You did the right thing by reporting it and getting the crime reference number. Same thing happened to me a few years back and luckily nothing came through.

The sad reality is that somewhere else someone who has the same make/model car as your husband will wake up to find their car missing...

Not sure if there are many S reg Hondas still on the road.
Will tell him later re the DVLA. It's just so annoying that these scum can cause so many problems.

Often used by scallies wanting free fuel. Tape plates over car plates, fill up, drive off, dump false plates.

What's worse is when they clone your plates but your's haven't been stolen. Then it's harder to keep proving it wasn't you that incurred all those fines and charges or were involved in an accident.

ANPR cameras are all well and good but they don't catch people who simply make copies of number plates of cars legally on the road. The incentive for doing this must be huge as the savings on tax, insurance, and MoT are vast while the chances of being caught are minimal, and if caught, the penalty is minimal.

SORN the car and they will get picked up quicker because it will ping any ANPR they pass.

Ideally they want the plates off a car thats all legal, the chances of them being picked up is low. If the cars SORNd then it maybe picked up.

Going to talk to DH later on this evening to see what the best option is.
At the moment I think SORNing it may be for the best especially as he seems happy getting the train into work and using my car during the weekend.
The police just said that he had to be aware that he may get stopped by the police as there is a marker on the car now.
