Confused! Help

Hello
I was with a nightmarish electric company who were making things a living hell. One of the big issues was with them constantly billing me incorrectly. I attempted to switch away from them 2 months ago. I thought everything was fine but then I got a letter from the new supplier claiming my original supplier had blocked the transfer. They wouldn't budge on this issue, claiming I owed them money.
However, I've now received a letter saying that my requested new supplier has successfully taken over supply of my electricity. I immediately contacted the new supplier to confirm this and they said that they've been supplying my electric for a few days now but my account is not quite yet active with them and we are "in the final stages of the transfer process."
Does this mean my awful previous supplier has still got their clutches in me?

Hi - welcome to the forum. The answer is 'yes' and 'no'. Clearly, the new supplier has transferred the supply and the old supplier has failed to block it despite telling you otherwise. There is an outside possibility, however, that your old supplier might claim that the new supplier has taken over your supply erroneously and ask for the transfer to be reversed.

The question is: how much do you owe? Immediate repayment of the amount due should defuse the situation. Ask your new supplier for the meter reading that has been used for the switch. This will be used as the closing reading by your new supplier so it should be possible for you to do the sums yourself prior to the final bill hitting your doormat.

OP suggested bills were incorrect? If so, I'd be reluctant to pay, even if it meant I got them off my back.
  • Thanks for your replies. I just talked to my new supplier again and they've said the switch has been successful and has gone through. They've been supplying me for the last 9 days apparently.
