Silence from Nationwide

I opened an account about 2 weeks ago via their website and have heard nothing from them at all....

Anyone else in a similar boat? Normally banks tend to send something out via post/email within a few days.

Luckily I noted the reference, but just wondering if there is some kind of backlog going on or is Nationwide normally this lazy?

Thanks

  • I wouldnt call them lazy. Their processes have a lot to be desired is a better term to use. It took me a while to get my docs and stuff through from them when I opened an aco!!!! with them and they dont appear to do anything on the hurry up in my view with my experience of them but if you dont ever need contact with them then it shouldnt be an issue.
  • I set up a current account for my then fourteen year old daughter about fifteen months ago. We didn't hear anything from them for ages and when we inquired it turned out that all of the paperwork had been sent to an old address even though we had informed them when we moved house and my daughter had been receiving paperwork from the Nationwide for other accounts at our current address for several years. If I were you I would be following this up.
  • Best bet would be to give them a call - 0800 30 20 10 - Option 3

NW have always been like this, I have opened and closed 4 accounts in 20 years. I guess not being a proper bank but a cooperative for its customers it does not throw exuberant money at the account openings dept for staff just advertising. Its slow at such, no doubt the amount of people wanting 5% interest has put more pressure on the openings dept.

They take their time. I got a letter from them this week informing me of changes that took effect last December. To save paper they also told told me about changes that will take place next December too.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Although I've got to say, their online message team usually respond within 48 hours and are very helpful, and when opening accounts online, there's very little delay.

I've just switched to a flex direct and it has been fairly slow but they are responsive when queried. My problem is that their notification emails went into my spam folder, which I found after they confirmed they had actually sent them.

I remember them being slow back when I opened an account. It is also a busy time of year.

Opened a flex basic account. Applied online and took the id into branch. Received all the cards and Internet banking stuff this week so around a week and half after opening

Same experience here, very slow and lots of stages.

Once up it was up and running we've been delighted.
