Does your address and number of credit cards effect your credit score?

Hi,
At the start of the year I was refused credit- i have no idea why as i've never had any rouble getting credit cards before and not missed payments yet my credit score is ok? Does anyone know why this could be?
I have registered with clearscore, experian, noodle, equifax and updated all my details including a high number of addresses that I've lived it- could this be the reason why my credit score isn't very good?
Also I have a few credit cards that I've opened over the years, used them when they were 0% and then have kept open but don't use, they have a high amount of credit on and Iv'e heard if you cancel those you can get new credit? is this true? I'm loathed to do this if i can't get that line of credit again-
Please can someone advise?! im so confused!
Thanks!

Are you on the electroal role?
Read the article on MSE on credit score its very helpful and will give you specific things to consider.
Have your personal circumstances changed (married, partner joint account etc if so their credit history may be affecting yours)Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.0 -
Just because you have had no issue getting cards in the past it doesn't mean your guaranteed to get any credit card you apply for.
Can cal the cards you don't use, use cash to buy things.0
