Lots of people trying to help the rather quiet OP. My 2d worth - see if you have a program called "GigaClicks Crawler" installed.0

SouthUKMan wrote: »Another thought. Have you at any point since owning the laptop upgraded your version of Windows from 7 or 8 / 8.1 to 10? The reason being is that as part of the upgrade process, Windows keeps a copy of your old installation as a backup. This backup can easily consume 8Gb of hard drive space (or more). The back up is only really useful in the first few minutes after the upgrade is complete...just in case things have gone horribly wrong (very unlikely) or you decide you don't like the look and feel of the new version (also unlikely in the case of 10 as it's rather nice!). Let me know if you think this might be your case, and I'll talk you through how to delete the backup (it's not too difficult).
Hi SouthUKMan
I have just (last night) upgraded to Windows 10 after putting it off for months as I'm scared to death of changing things and not being able to find stuff on a newer system (like the OP, I'm technophobic).
I would be eternally grateful for the instructions to delete the backup since everything I read tells me that Windows 10 is easy to use. Got to bite the bullet sooner or later I guess!!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

I happened on this and ran WinDirStat, very impressive. How do I interpret the results?
Wow.
Just to check, you have a result something like this .... ???0 -

Sarcastic??? What have I said that might lead you to think that?
I'm genuinely groping about in the dark here - haven't a clue how to do anything other than the basics and would be glad of some help....that's all

Can I suggest that you start your own thread for your own issue?
There's currently three posters asking for help here, two of whom are dealing with full drives - yours appears to be under the heading of 'new software installation woes' .....0 -
Oldbiggles wrote: »Yes thats the result I'm looking at.
Tell us which bits you understand, and which you don't.
For example, I see the panel at top right, and conclude that
DISK files are taking up the most space (.disk file extension)
Disc image files are next (.iso extension),
etc
and that the colour coding on these matches the graphical display in the lower panel.
Are you running this on your C: file, and have you checked, as I suggested to the OP, that your disk isn't partitioned into C: and???

Woops! Afraid to say it's all gobbledygook. The programme askes if you want to save to text file, so I did but when I looked it was no longer readable to me, but I'm still looking at the original result which matches your posted image.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -

Please tell me/us;
What problem are you trying to solve?
What led you to run WinDirStat?
What understanding do you have of the basics of file storage on a PC? As in -
Do you appreciate that each type of file has a different file extension?
Do you appreciate that files are grouped in folders (or directories)?
Do you appreciate that folders can have subfolders?
We need to know where to start from.0
