Fireplace advice

Hi all.

Please see attached a picture of the fire place. Its a wierd set up and just need some tips.

You can see there is about and 8 foot peice of wood running under the fire place which is the base to the fire place under that there r brick holdin up the base. (The laminate flooring has been fitted around the brick work)

What can i do to make this more appealing.

I cant rip it up as it will mean i will have to get new flooring put in.

I was thinking of boarding the front up. And painting it and maybe turning it into a sit down area maybe putting on some soft tops?

Any help would be great

Get the picture hosted on a site like Tinypic and paste the link into your post.

You may have to break the link as you are a relatively 'new' poster in terms of posts, but we can fix it.

I think boxing it off would be the easiest option. Use some decent quality wood and stain it to match your room rather than paint it.

If you had more of the laminate (or could buy more of the same) and it was laid towards the fireplace it would be easy enough to fit new boards, you could then remove everything that wasn't essential. This would be my preferred option.

You could get a piece of Marble or granite cut to regs to fit in fron of the fire, if you want the fire kept. You could then, as other people have said, box the sides in and make them as occasional seats.

You can also colour stain the brickwork to a more suitable colour for your room.

Bit of a weird set up though you have there. Can't see how it passed regs when the fire was installed years ago.
