Carpet cleaning error :(

I applied too much carpet stain removal onto my three month old cream carpet which has a loop weave and is roughly 50% wool.
I've tried dabbing with paper towels, tissues, a strong floor cloth and a microfibres cloth. I've also poured some water on to try and dilute the product but you can still hear the crackling product sound in the carpet and the white stain is quite obvious.
Does anyone have any other hints or advice? I don't have a steam or carpet cleaner.

Assuming the carpet isn't actually damaged, and it's just a case of needing to remove the excess cleaning product, then you probably just need to repeatedly rinse with clean water and soak it up with paper towels or whatever.
Alternatively, you can hire a carpet cleaner for not much money, which will probably do a more thorough job - and it'll allow you to go over the whole carpet so that you don't end up with one spot cleaner than the rest. A quick google shows that you can hire a Rug Doctor from Tesco or Homebase for £22.99 a day, and places like HSS, Jewson etc. also hire out cleaners ( some will do a half-day hire period, which will probably be enough for one carpet ).0 -
if the carpet 'stain' is white, then its not a stain, its bleached..
most carpet cleaning products you can buy in supermarkets contain a bleaching agent, and unfortunately the effect it has on most carpets in disasterous, but on wool, it stands out even more... i'm afraid to say that might be the end of that carpet... have a chat to your insurer, see what they say.0 -
Agree with scrooge -I have used a rug doctor twice and been very impressed!
3 litres of magnolia paint anyone?
4 litres of car oil?
Got them both out without fuss from a beige carpet.
I must now resolve myself to be less careless!0 -
Try not to over wet the carpet if possible, I managed to totally wreck my lounge wool carpet by doing that, it shrunk off the grippers and has been rippled ever since! hope you can get it sorted but might be worth calling in a professional carpet cleaner they would know the best solution0

Thanks everybody. My husband suggested we leave it to dry and then vacuum it which I did this morning and it's come up fine.
I do want to get my other carpets cleaned so I'll check out the ones you can hire!0
