homeless people

As Tom says being homeless in itself does not mean you can't get benefits but a homeless person may not claim for a variety of reasons.
As for feeling sorry for them, would you want their life? I believe that they should get a hand up to get them off the streets but not in giving them cash.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink...
I fail to see what asylum seekers have to do with any of this?0 -
Maybe they don't get JSA. To get JSA they have to be looking for work and prove it. They probably can't do that.
They would also need housing. They most probably have mental illnesses depression being one and do not prioritize paying the rent above paying for alcohol which they feel helps with their mental illness.
The housing association probably won't house them as they therefore made themselves homeless. They only help those who are homeless through no fault of their own. You've got to pay the rent or you won't be helped.
Asylum seekers are not allowed to work. Once they have been granted asylum they lose the free house they've been allowed to live in, have to pay the rent and have to look for work like any other British person.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Is there no benefit for people that are vulnerable ?
If I was in their shoe, I wouldn't have like to continue living the same way and would have done something.
When you apply for JSA, you can also apply for housing benefit or rent a room so you don't have to sleep on the streets
This has to be a wind up. I'm out...0 -
If you just get £70 odd a week JSA, that will be blown in a day.....0

What would you do if you see them next, buying food and cloth?
The guy is next to my work so tomorrow will get him some stuff0 -
I work for a charity that helps the homeless, we have hostels all over the country, I would say that a great deal of them do have addiction problems, some of these problems have caused them to be homeless, some only started to have the problems when they became homeless everyone is different.
I try not to judge and treat people with respect, but sometimes its difficult when you are called a F**** B**** for just trying to help0 -

Speak to him? Ask him about his situation, if there is anything you can do to help (which wouldn't usually be cash). Don't make assumptions.0 -
What are you suggesting it is "blown" on?
Even ppl who are not homeless can blown their benefit money extremely quickly even if they are not on drugs/drink ...... a days bender in the pub could blow it, then there's nothing left for the week.... even if you don't blow it to live of that amount of money a week is very hard and depressing.0 -

Why do you think most homeless people will blow their money on drink and drugs? Genuine question, I wonder where this stereotype is coming from.0
