I am not interested in going.
As I said, my friend works in Riyadh so his employer must have sorted out his visa but we didn't discuss it. I also made it clear that I didn't get as far as looking at visas because I went off the idea of visiting when I looked into what was in the country and decided against it. Until it was pointed out in this thread I had no idea that tourist visas aren't a possibility. I think that it would be reasonable to look at the country before investigating whether or not it's possible to get there but each to their own I guess. If you think that that's a defensive position then so be it. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Can't see what this or that stamps in your passport has to do with with getting into Saudi Arabia.

Unless you meet the full criteria you ain't going to visit.

Speaking as someone who spent 4 years in the Kingdom, I found the country an experience that I won't forget, and definitely have no regrets for making that commitment.

It's futile continuing this as I have no idea why you keep seeming to take offense, but I just thought I'd clarify that absolutely nothing I've said should have been viewed that way by you. I cannot see how it possibly would be, but if you've been upset by some assumed tone in there I apologise.
