Dell laptop issues

Hi

All of a sudden yesterday when booting my dell laptop, a message comes up saying no hard drive is detected & cannot reboot. have had a read via the dell support website but trying to pinpoint an answer is nigh impossible (laptop just gone out of guarantee period btw!!)

Had a go ate the f12 & f2 functions but am no pc expert if I'm honest so didn't know where to start in terms of diagnosing the issue & how to alter options to possible resolve.

Any advice appreciated

Lol, is this a Dell joke or something? I bought a used Dell laptop andtthebios was locked up and pprevious owner had no clue how to fix. Luckily Icould contact them and get a unlock code.

Of course I needed the bloody service tag

Take the HDD out of the laptop, install as a secondary drive in the desktop (might need 2.5 to 3.5" adaptors) and run chkdsk and other diagnostics on it there.
