You need to keep records. Can be done manually but better if you use a personal finance software package. I am an AceMoney fan myself but there are many others - MS Money, BankTree, YNAB. If you are good with spreadsheets, you can just set up one or more of them.
I also use an account aggregator to check the balance of all the accounts once a day.0 -

Recommended, if you total balance is off you just look up and know what account is short
