Moving Gas and Electric Meters Help!

Options
Anyone help me with who to contact about getting our meters moved, we moved into our bungalow 3 months ago and the kitchen has been fitted round the meters making it almost impossible to access the meters!! We contacted Sainsburys who we have the contract with but they say they don't deal with that stuff. I feel I am going round in circles trying to get the info I need and who to speak to :( - please help x

Contact the district network operator for your area.

Moving the meters is going to cost you BIG TIME I'm afraid, may be best to live with them and use a camera poked into the cupboard to take the readings

Do not contact the network operator direct .. You have to go through your supplier, thats British Gas for you..They will act on your behalf contacting the local DNO to you and National Grid/DNO will send you all the details and costs. To move the meters you will have to dismantle the fitted kitchen units enough so thje fitter can get at the meters. They are not magicians and they will take one look at the meters and walk out if they cannot get at them properly. Bear in mind it is not cheap to move the meters if you want them outside..you could easily be looking at £1500 to move them both and YOU have to purchase the meter boxes.
whoever you spoke to at the call centre was wrong..they do deal with that stuff, , although Sainsburys Energy are BG and use the same call centres, so maybe calling BG direct may get a better trained call centre staff. Sainsburys are supposed to be a no frills cheaper BG outfit.. If you dont want to move them, do what I do and get a £1. 50 extending mirror and read the meters like that..dont mess about with a camera. Its not unusual to find the new fancy kitchen units to have a bigger priority than your vital meters.. When the DNO s come and must move the meters they wont mess about and they will demand access to the meters and they wont be responsible for dismantling the pretty new kitchen

If it is being moved to another wall, or more than 1M from the current location then Suppliers wont want to know. It says this on their own sites. You need to contact the DNO in these situations.

Of course if it is the same wall and no more than 1M the suppliers will happily deal with you.
