Nationwide Credit Card Quote Issue

  • Glad you were accepted Tori :) it's clear that offering silly limits like 3800 on a soft search it doesn't actually search - how can you go from £3800 to there is something suddenly so awful we don't trust you with £500....???

I presume a current account is easier to get than a credit card? Might apply for a current account next time, then the card as the add on at the end if that goes through.

Is your credit file clean of nasties? I mean late payment etc...as a current account holder, if your account has been opened for 3months and atleast £750 has been going in you should be eligible for the select card.

I was quoted £3250 @ 19.9% I reduced it to what I needed and was accepted straight away card and pin came within 5days.

Note: I reduced it because I applied for MBNA MT Card same day. bye bye to credit search till next year

Perfect credit file. Interestingly I cannot see a credit search on any CRA. Experian usually takes a while but I would have expected to see it by now.

Major suspect for rejection is an overall high credit available across all other accounts...
  • I also have a squeaky clean file, no missed payments. Had a few searches lately though which maybe is not seen on the soft search, and also have approx £30k in credit available which may also be a negative.

19.9% does not necessarily mean a decline.

I applied for Nationwide Select Credit Card about two years ago. I was quoted 19.9% and £2000. The application was approved.

I do however bank with Nationwide.
  • Same, quoted 19.9%, £3000. Approved and offered a lower APR to 15.9% once I was approved. I'm just waiting for the card to arrive. I'm also a Nationwide current account member, have been for over a year.

That's the only reasonable explanation I can think of for mine - I have a lot of searches (although most of thrm are Nationwide!). The monthly feed they get might not show them either depending on which CRA they get it from.

Also they search your file with the product appended (e.g Nationwide - Flex or Nationwide - Credit Card)

Therefore 2 searches in 1 day might not be combined into one for CRA purposes, whereas many other companies they are

Those of you accepted - did you take the full whack? I've tried taking it all, taking minimum and taking somewhere in between!

Guessing minimum isn't a good idea as you don't show as profitable. But I'd hope midway would be looked on more favourably... evidently not for me :p
  • I was so incredulous that they were willing to accept me that I accepted whatever they gave me! Didn't want to rock the boat!

I went down to the branch yesterday to show ID and sign credit agreement. Not sure how long it will take for the card to come.
