FVF refund

Buyer messaged me a couple of weeks after leaving positive feedback that they were having trouble with the item and wanted to return for a refund.

No case opened, just a message

Having looked at what the return cost would be I refunded and said to keep the item. I then refunded through paypal.

Is there a way to get my FVF back from Ebay now ?

Thx

yeah you have to send a mutually agree to cancel transaction via ebay. buyer will need to agee to cancel the transaction. message the buyer first to let them know that you will be sending the request to cancel the transaction. they should hopefully agree. I've done this maybe 3 times over 7 years and the buyer agreed each time. One of the reasons to keep buyer happy

    Thank you very much, appreciated

ps I chose the 2nd reason, Buyer asked to cancel or there's a problem with address which I recall reading was the right option. The other choice was something about having no stock which I think gets a defect

You chose the right option but did it in the wrong order, you may find you get a defect as an out of stock (which can happen if you refund and then cancel) but should be able to appeal if it comes.

Next time, if refunding without a return, cancel and refund through the cancellation not direct in PayPal.

It's a minefield trying to do the right thing and finding ways around ebays "system"

If I'm to get a defect, when will I know ?

Sounds like I'd have been better off leaving them to keep the FVF (which is probably what they want) as whenever there's been some sort of customer query (not escalated to Ebay but via their system) I find sales go dead for a few days

You will know by the end of the month (20th) but you should possibly know by next Thursday. The reports are updated (either Wednesday or Thursday), so you should be able to view your report and see it. If this happened a week ago, you might be able to see it on your updated report from yesterday.

Hopefully you won't. But if you do, it's appealable with your messages.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out.

As a side issue I sold something on my website over the weekend whilst I was away so had to use my mobile to delete the item from ebay.

I normally use "item no longer available" as the reason and have never had any comeback but due to fat finger syndrome on the mobile phone I selected ended because "item was lost or broken"
Is that ok or can I get a defect for using that reason ?

There are now only two ways to get a defect.

    1. Cancelling for out of stock.
    2. Seller unresolved cases.
  • So although "item no longer available" or "item lost or broken" both mean the item is "out of stock" in theory I'm assuming there's an actual "item out of stock" option ?

Be mad to select that if there is

You do not get a defect for ending an item early, only for cancelling a sale.
