Car Boot Advice Needed Please

Hi,
I am thinking of doing my first car boot on Sunday, I have just read the sticky at the top of the page & there is some very useful advice there, thanks to all who posted.
I have a few more questions though....
1. Should I wash/rinse my clothes etc before hand?
2. Does bedding and such sell well & should I wash this? And what price should I ask?
3. What sort of price should I ask for toys & board games?
4. What kind of price for PS2/pc games?
I'm sure I will have more questions, but in the mean time any help would greatly appreciated.
TIA sara

hi, whenever I go to car boots I rarely buy clothes as you have to rummage too much and you can never tell what size they are. If you can hang them on a rail with a clear size label I think they'll sell really well. I would try to wash them but as long as they aren't really dirty don't worry as people will wash them when they get home anyway!
I'd pay about £5 for PS2 games unless they're really rare, they're getting so cheap since the PS3 came out!
Good luck with it, I'd love to have a car boot sale but would end up coming home with more than I 'd sold cos I love them!0 -

I was just thinking it might be better to hang them up, I'm almost certain I have a hanging rail & loads of spare hangers ! The majority are kids clothes & the same sizes.
I have a car seat that was my sons, hardly used as he grew out of it pretty quickly, would it sell? & what sort of price should I ask? I have his cot as well?0 -

I wash mine and hang them on hangers on a rail- you get more money that way and encourage buyers to look at them.
2. Does bedding and such sell well & should I wash this? And what price should I ask?
I would wash it and seal it in clear plastic bags with what it is written on teh front, you won't get much, maybe about £2-£3 for a duvet and pillows set.
3. What sort of price should I ask for toys & board games?
This depend son what kind of toys they are, how good nick theyre in, how mcuh they cost originally. expect about £1 for most stuff.
4. What kind of price for PS2/pc games?
About £5 for the PS2 games, the PC games depend upon wether theyre big names or not, anywhere between £1-£5.:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -

i dont think your car seat would sell as parents are always warned not to buy these second hand.
For the cot, i would price it under half of what it would cost to buy the equivalent new, as long as its in good order:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -
good luck btw! im sure you will get the bug and want to return week after week. i did my first car boot with my dad when i was 4 and now im a trader

thanks for your replies.
I've just sat down after a day of sorting out.
I've got binbags & carrier bags full off clothes!
I also found a LARGE carrier full of face creams, perfumes etc, all unopened, plus loads more (too much to mention)
I did want to sort the kids toys out as well & see if there was anything that is in good enough condition to sell, haven't managed to do that yet, but I've got no space left in my bedroom to keep it all

I'm intrigued....how do you become a trader & what do you trade ?

In my area £5 is a lot for a PS2 game at a car boot sale: most are about £3 nowadays. You could try displaying them without price labels, and when someone asks the price say £5 but if they then make their "ouch" face and hastily put it back as though it were somehow contaminated, you can drop the price a bit!
Whether your clothes and bedding should be washed depends if they need it, really. I assume they'e been washed since last used and the buyers will probably wash them again anyway (I do with secondhand clothes even if they seem freshly washed when I buy them), so unless they've got that stored-for-ages smell or are badly crumpled it probably won't be necessary.
Some still do though, especially those who have no car of their own and don't want to spend a fortune on a seat for occasional use in relatives' cars. The ones for small babies which have carrying handles for out-of-car use are popular. The main question is, does it have its instructions? One reason parents are warned against buying car seats secondhand is that many are fitted incorrectly due to lack of instructions.i dont think your car seat would sell as parents are always warned not to buy these second hand.0 -

i sell cosmetics & other beauty stuff- ideal when you live where i do- theres dozens of beauty wholesalers nearby. when i started doing it, i registered with the IR as a sole trader, and i joined the Market Traders Federation (mainly for the public liability insurance!):T The best things in life are FREE! :T0
