  • Thanks - ordered one from Evesham on Sunday and it arrived on Tuesday. If it saves me one speeding fine then it will have paid for itself.

But if it causes one collision because you ignore speed limits except when it tells you there's a speed camera, then it certainly won't.

If it makes you slow down where there are speed cameras which are set at dangerous places (in theory!) then it is a safety device.

I've got one of these (actually a mk1). To be honest, it is bottom of the range of sat navs. Maps are old - roundabouts exist where the map says its a straight road and our house isn't on there. Useful but I support the people who say to spend a little more and get a better product.

But not if you speed up everywhere else! Everywhere on the road can be a dangerous place, and there is millions of times more road not covered by a speed camera than road that is.

Yes but "safety cameras" have to be put in the accident black spots. And speed camera detectors have never made me speed up in other areas. Just makes me particularly cautious when a camera is present.

Isn't the purpose of cameras to be a deterrent???

You might be whiter than white and never speed, but it's plain that for most people (and admitted by MAXMAX) these alerts simply allow them to speed with impunity because they think they can get away with it.

I think all confident drivers speed at some point. Oh, and don't forget they are SAFETY cameras not speed cameras so a heads up on an unsafe area can only be a good thing.

If you don't want to use the camera location warning, all you need to do is switch it off.
