Buy a wire brush and a tin of Hammerite, problem solved.

And yes garden furnature should not be left exposed to the elements all winter. All mine are currently sitting in the greenhouse and will stay there until Spring is well underway.

Have my table and chairs outside all the time from asda (would be too big to bring inside) - had for 2 years and no rust to be seen

What metal is it though? Not all metals react the same.

Aluminium garden furniture won't rust - wrought iron or steel will.

Why did you buy garden furniture in October?

Because it was nearly half price in the end of season sale.

    I'm with the OP.

I have a garden table and chairs that are not rusting after at least 2 years of being in the garden all year. They were sold to me as garden furniture, not store it inside and only take it outside on sunny days furniture.

Is it the same set OP has?

If not, not entirely sure what relevance your garden furniture has to OP's predicament.

I have garden furniture that doesn't rust. And it will never rust - because its wooden. Needs treatment every year when taken out of winter storage though.

Bring back plastic garden furniture and Jiff!

I have a wooden set and it's a pain having to treat it annually and store over winter. I nearly bought a metal set in B&Q at end of last summer that they were selling off but all the chairs were already rusting so not a good option for wet Wales!
