Partnership Card Direct Debit Payments

Held a John Lewis Financial Services Partnership Card for around 3 years and always cleared monthly balances by direct debit mandate. However, payment due on 01 March failed to happen, and on checking my account online found I had incurred a £12 late payment charge. Called the Partnership Coventry call centre (finally got through after 30 minutes of "we're sorry all our advisers....." rubbish) only to be told that I had switched my bank account at a time that was not convenient to John Lewis Financial Services IT system and, due to that, they were not able to collect under the direct debit mandate. Their "adviser" grudgingly agreed that he was "prepared" to cancel the late-payment charge. As I objected to this curmudgeonly attitude I wanted to lodge a complaint about the level of service, only to find that the John Lewis Financial Services Partnership Card has nothing to do with the John Lewis Partnership, Seem that John Lewis lends their good name under a licensing agreement. The card is in fact the property of and managed by the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, better known as HSBC. Anyone else had dd payment problems with this card?

Very few retailers issue their own cards.
DDs are slow to set up and amend, particularly as they need to give you you sufficient notice of the amount to be taken after you give the instruction, so I'm not surprised that it failed on this occasion.
Good that you got the fee refunded though.0
