Cancelling a claim

Why would you stop a claim of you have DashCam footage that you were faultless?
Its really a matter of my impatience and the realistic cost of the repair (about £7 for my colour, the rest i have already) which i am more than happy to do myself. (gets me away from the GF for a while)
The incident happened a week ago today and the bus company still seem to know nothing about the incident (so they say).
The car was booked for repair via insurance co but the earliest they could do was the 30th of march.. Far too long for something which will take me half a day.
I initially reported the incident as the damage looked a lot worse at the time, Plus its the 'right' thing to do in terms of legalities.
Whats the point of potentially hundreds of pounds going between companies, the slight chance that this goes down as 50/50 and costing me a lot more than £7 and half a day to fix.
This is a money saving forum after all.0 -
It still goes on your Insurance history and needs to be declared, as to if it makes a difference to a premium I don't know.
I suppose if you want to have a low premium for ever, you need to park it in a safe garage!0 -
I can confirm that anything, any incident makes a difference to the premium at least when it is recent. ... etc
Guess what dropped on my doormat today.. Churchill saying they want an additional £370 on top of the of the £480 for my initial premium. 'if you do not contact us within 10 days then we will presume that this is ok and will send a revised certificate' ..
PMSL, well guess who i'm phoning tomorrow. After i do some browsing for other companies.0 -

that's the issue right now. the incident happened LAST Thursday, the renewal started on Wednesday just gone. so it is a new premium. I'm going to phone them tomorrow as when I spoke to the guy at Churchill he said nothing would go up if I cancelled the claim at this stage. I want them to clarify what exactly they mean. would anyone advise that I reopen the claim in the hope that I am found at no fault?0

Hi,
I have worked in the insurance industry for a number of years I have just left due to childcare reasons, there are two types of claims there are 'fault' claims and 'non fault' claims, if you are cancelling the claim process to avoid a premium increase and affecting your ncb you may still have to make the insurance company aware for risk and as you have already entered the claims process you may find that the claims data has already been shared and is in the underwriters systems. If you are not putting it through the questions when purchasing policies are some where along the lines of asking if there have been any "claims, accidents or losses, whether or not subject to an insurance claim" so this would still count as a loss even though it may not be subjected to a claim (if you are withdrawing), if you are taking care of the settlement yourself then it still could be logged as "non fault" and some underwriters may make the premium a different amount because it is still classed as a risk and needs to be declared as an accident or a loss, the reason being is the vehicle you have had in the accident could have been damaged and could be a risk to drive if has not been fully investigated (that's just one underwriting factor, there are many more under factors that come under 'non fault' that could make the premium change). As you are the consumer its your call but just to make you aware that non fault incidents still need to be logged. Hope this helps0 -
yeah, its been logged with them and then cancelled any claim so my premiums wouldn't be affected (I had it in mind that they would at least a bit) but for them to want an extra £370 is taking the P a bit. I will phone them tomorrow in the hope that it's just because of where the overlaps have taken place that they processed that letter before I had cancelled. I've already looked at other quotes, have declared the incindent and assumed I'll have 5 years ncb by the end of this and they're coming out around 520 - 550 area so I'd have no hesitation changing if Churchill want 850 odd out of me.0
