Boiler quotes...

Options
Hi guys,

Been quoted for a Worcester Bosch 30i boiler with an 8yr warranty for c £2400
Also got another quote for a WB 25si (8yr warranty) for c £2350.

Both include the usual flushes and filters. One has a Danfoss wireless thermostat and the other has a Horstmann clock and thermostat.

Any ideas on which is a good buy?

There's also a Baxi Platinum 24 (£1800 - £2200 range in quotes) in the background...

Thanks a lot.

OMM

Baxi plat although go for 28 not 24
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Thanks.

Is Baxi really better than Worcester Bosch? Which? and other surveys put the WB on top for reliability. One of the hearing engineers also suggested that backup and support is better with WB.

    Thanks again.

  • Also, why the 28? I live in a 1/2 bed flat although if it's got better hot water flow then all good.
Does the 28 have better parts?

You been quoted for a 25 & 30 WB so I assumed you wanted that kinda size, with a combi its all about hot water flow rate so yes the bigger the boiler the more flow rate however you really want a happy medium between what you need/want & price,

Which & WB have a "interesting" relationship shall we say, personally I don't like WB for a number of reasons, aluminium heat exchangers as apposed to stainless steel, most of the internal components are plastic rather than brass, an absolute pita to service or replace anything (if it's outside of the warentee as WB will fix it within that period), customer service & the price of spares is very good from them but you pay for that in the first place by the cost of the boiler, would I fit a WB in my own house ? No I wouldn't I would fit either a Intergas, Atag or Baxi, the Baxi plat you have already been quoted on comes with a 10 yr warentee & if your installer registers it through Baxi Works you get next day service from heat team (their repair co)

  • Thanks for your response scgri.

    Any other opinions?

  • southcoast, the great customer service and price of spares with Worcester Bosch, isn't that all a customer needs to make them a good choice? For me, having a product that won't cause a headache to sort when things go wrong is a plus.

    Still undecided...

But with either the WB or Baxi you will have the warentee so the cost of parts doesn't really matter to you, to get the extra warentee with WB your installer has to be WB approved whereas the Baxi Plat has 10 yrs who ever fits it, you won't have any issues with either of them if they go wrong

Good point. I guess it come to price at the end.

After the warranty period though, isn't that when the real issues arise with things like build quality and reliability??
