Switched to Santander - Sorry I Bothered

Well took the advice and switched my main current account after many years (problem free) with Halifax - to Santander 123 !

Nightmare ! Problems with my wages being paid in wrong account - Mortgage payment part paid rest cancelled by Santander !! - Council Tax not informed in time so double payment taken this month !! - Postcode Lottery not transferred over - problems with other Direct Debits that I had to contact suppliers to sort.

Tweeted 'Martin' to say what a mess it had been - but no response whatsoever but lots of responses from him to other happy tweeters - maybe only interested in 'no problem switching so he can promote it'.

Waiting nearly 2 weeks for Complaint to be looked at

Not a happy bunny at all !!!

Why did you switch to S123 if your balance is close to zero and DDs get bounced because of a small delay with wages?
Are your DDs big enough for cashback to cover the monthly fee? Would you not be better off with Halifax Reward account and its monthly fiver?

And why tweet Martin? What do you expect him to do? Console you via a retweet?

Grumbler...... My DD's didn't get bounced it was the actual setting up by Santander that was co***d up.

cifpower...... in a word YES - he goes on TV promoting these things as the best thing since sliced bread and how easy it is - so people like me who have problems with them need to make him aware that it isn't all plain sailing (lol).... bit defensive of Martin aren't you .... you his forum security ?

Thought this forum was to share info good and bad not to get jumped on when posting ;)

Martin does a lot of good stuff but the chances of him responding to one person having a whinge is pretty small.

This thread would be better on the Praise, Vents and Warnings board, you have no information to impart and no question to ask, you simply want to get it off your chest, which is what that board is for.

I often moan about customer service at Santander but for me the switching worked perfectly.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

He does, yes, but also always mentions customer service. So he already knows it isn't always plain sailing.

Did you do a full switch which closed the old account?. If so this mean if anything goes wrong there are grantees in place to make sure you don't loose out financially if anything goes wrong.

If the old account remains open then it wasn't a proper switch so that may be why your having problems.
  • I just completed my switch from Natwest to Santander yesterday and have been generally pleased with the transfer. I kept an eye on things via online banking just to make sure they transferred the direct debits correctly. I did notice a stray direct debit that did not belong to me but just telephoned them and got this removed immediately. Also as my husband is paid weekly I got him to notify his employer of the new bank details rather than relying on Santander doing this in the time frame. I will continue to keep an eye on the direct debits for the first month but all in all I have been pleased with the switch.
