NPower are the pits!
After consulting the comparison tool in this site (Cheapenergy Club) we decided to switch to NPower. They asked us for a reading, but my electricity meter has SIX BLACK numbers and their site only allows five, They have a few videos of how to read meters but mine (which is pretty new) IS NOT THERE. That is a minor issue, the main problem with these people ---I would like to stop the switch if I can--is that they are IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH. There is a "Chat" which is never available (been trying since yesterday) and a telephone number where you can wait until the cows come home (never got to talk to anybody). They are so patronizing their "contact us" links take you to their FAQs which, as everybody knows, never address YOUR issues. BE WARNED!!!!

Have you tried Royal Mail?
Edit: Or simply contact your existing supplier if you want to stop the switch going ahead (assuming you are still within the permitted cancellation period)0 -
Thanks but I was not really asking how to stop the switch, but warn other users how APPALLING these people are. I finally submitted my reading after talking to someone on the phone and clarifying the 6 digit issue. Today I get an email from them asking me for a reading AGAIN. Their chat is STILL NOT WORKING and after half an hour of wasting my time on the phone I got nowhere. I am definitely switching back to EDF. A few pounds are not worth the stress and you cannot be with a company that cannot be reached if you need to....0

I think most people aught to know by now that Npower is pretty poor.
They have bad publicity, they come botton in nearly all of the polls, they've been fined, get more criticism that most on this forum and the fact that they are losing money and making 2500 people redundant really should give you a bit of a clue.
In fact it makes it really hard to understand why anyone would want to transfer to them - they don't even have the best tariffsNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
But OP is asking how to stop the switch .0
