Credit Card Charges/Fees

Hi, I've had an email regarding a balance payment on a holiday I've booked with a high street travel agent which says that if I choose to pay by credit card there will be a 2% charge.

Just checking that this is correct as I saw quite a few stories in the news at the end of last year stating that EU regulations now cap charges to a maximum of just 0.3%. Is this right and should I be questioning this charge with the travel agent? Thanks

It could still be right. It needs to reflect their costs in accepting cards, which is more than just the merchant fee they pay the issuer.

Retailers can generally charge a fee for processing costs however they dont have to state what this is

Shops can charge what it costs them - and they can build in the total cost - eg renting machines etc.

The 0.3% fee is a different charge, not what retailers are charged.
