Natwest and DRO
Options
My DRO was granted yesterday and I am appearing on the insolvency register from today.
I am currently in the process of opening 2 new accounts. 1 the nationwide flex basic and the other a Natwest Select account. Both have been approved and I have the account numbers etc for both.
I'm just waiting for the cards and pins. I know the nationwide account will be ok but do I need to inform Natwest of the DRO? I've seen some other posts on here saying the Natwest one could be closed or is it just a case of being downgraded? Hopefully that won't happen

Hi
I’m not sure about the Natwest account but I think it’s safest to check with them directly, or just have your salary paid into the Nationwide basic.

I'd use the nationwide one if I'm honest.
I had a DRO many years ago now and I had my Halifax accounts closed down.
I applied for a Natwest basic account at the time and it was fine all accepted and had my JSA paid into it for a few months but then after a while they just decided to send me a letter saying the account was going to be automatically closed and in their words "couldn't tell me why, even if I asked".
I assumed it can only be because they are part of the RBS group, like Halifax and may have got wind of my DRO but I didn't think it'd matter for a 'basic' account.0 -
I think I may just have to see what happens I wanted to use one as a bills account and use the other for what's left over for food shopping etc2012 wins! can of deodorant, a personalised Bean, craft show tickets, Top Gear Live Tickets, Case of sourz fusion0

I don't have any debts with Natwest so don't necessarily have to disclose my DRO. Do they do there own checks2012 wins! can of deodorant, a personalised Bean, craft show tickets, Top Gear Live Tickets, Case of sourz fusion0

Would you have an overdraft?
I had the same situation with the Halifax (same never any debts with em) I banked with them when the alleged BR friendly bank closed my account as expected - HX have never even to this day mentioned the DRO although they will say no straight away to ever allowing me an overdraft which makes me suss but they will never say, even though I built my account status up really only after the DRO still remember the time I wasn't allowed counter service so it was real easy to avoid the banks and their questions one time!0 -

Nationwide will be fine. I applied for this account after DRO and they allow I discharged bankrupts.
However I had a select account with Natwest with no overdraft and good history on the account and within a month of my DRO (Aug 2015) they wrote to me and said following internal checks we have been made aware you have a DRO and therefore we will be downgrading your account.
They won't close it, but they will downgrade it to the basic account (which will become the completely fee free 'Foundation Account' in April 2016)
Hope this helps

Thank you. I assuming once downgraded I will
Get a new card and lose the contactless facility? It doesn't really matter. Forgot I had applied for a basic hsbc account also.
Is there a limit on the number of accounts you can have?2012 wins! can of deodorant, a personalised Bean, craft show tickets, Top Gear Live Tickets, Case of sourz fusion0 -
Correct: they send a new card which is not contactless and they cancel the contactless card within 30 days of the letter anyway. The card is a bit limited though it doesn't work at offline terminals such as Petrol Stations where you 'Pay @ Pump'
No. Of accounts doesn't matter- I have Natwest basic account along with Halifax basic , Barclays basic, nationwide flex basic and HSBC basic.
The nationwide is great as you get contactless but the contactless payments are made online so you can't spend what you don't have ; same as Apple Pay.
Weirdly I opened an RBS select account the day after my DRO approved and it's stayed opened with a contactless card0
