O/S Daily Wednesday 9 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, very wet and laying water underfoot and it’s raining very heavily and steadily – but much warmer.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was chicken and mushroom slices, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg/salad for the menfolk. I had jacket potato, beans, cheese and salad. I remembered to get the pork steaks out to defrost so I’ll do mash, veg and gravy and use up the LO’s from Sundays’ roast also.

Work yesterday was steady – but I had some difficult cases, why some people do what they do and they expect that authorities and others are going to pick up the pieces I don’t know. I got to that point yesterday where I needed to take myself off for a few minutes and cried in the staff kitchen whilst making a cuppa. At least one of my cases I managed to get someone re-admitted to a mental health ward at hospital as customer was really really unwell, mentally and physically. I’m normally quite strong and hard when dealing with these cases at work but yesterday was just one after another and genuine cases, the day I lose having empathy and caring is the day I need to look for another job. I’m only working until lunchtime today, then on days’ off and I’m on leave next week, tomorrow I’m going in for a training session but after that I’m not back until the Monday of Easter week – time off that’s very much needed as it’ll be very busy as we approach the new financial year.

I thought yesterday would leave me feeling low but once I got home last night, got dinner and pack ups organised I was fine, fortunately those types of days’ are not all day every day – I think I’d find that quite hard to deal with.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Thanks for starting NMLC. I hope today is a better day for you. And enjoy your up and coming time off too, it sounds as though you really need the break.

Despite the dull (but dry) weather we decided to have a day out yesterday. We got the bus to Skipton and had a wander down to the canal dock, followed by a stroil along the canal. I then had a browse in a few charity shops, followed by late lunch in 'Spoons. Being Tuesday it was steak day so I had Smothered Chicken and Mr TA had Rump steak. And very nice it was too! CS purchases were a lovely brand new bag for £3.50 and, of course, I was tempted by another book which I really didn't need!

Today will be a busy day in comparison! I have the hairdressers at 10.00, followed by the weekly shop (a day early as Mr TA has his monthly Leeds appt tomorrow) then Mr TA is going to the barbers whilst I go to M & S to collect a top I've ordered. Back home to put the shopping away, a quick lunch and, before we know it, the 3 DGDs will be getting dropped off, one by one, after their ballet and dancing lessons and the youngest (5) is to take to Rainbows. Tea will be sausage and mash, with onion gravy, dished up in stages as each one arrives! Roll on bedtime for them all!

Nice to hear from you ELONA. There sounds to be a lot of work ahead but it will be worth it in the end. BB sorry you are suffering. Have a nice day all if you can and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx

    Morning all,

No rain here atm but more due later, hopefully it will be quieter at work today, it was too busy yesterday. Been enjoying my time as deputy manager and the time had flown by, boss is back next week and I shall hand back to her but I've enjoyed it.

Mums for dinner tonight don't know what we are having but it will be tasty, and its such a treat not to have to cook.

Sistercas nice to see you posting, I hope things settle down for you quickly, its always difficult starting a new job xx

    Morning everyone.

Light and bright in Glasgow. My mum is 88 today so there will be cake.

Yesterday was a bit wet. Car got serviced OK, I picked up my new wool tights from M&S and then spent the evening doing things in mum's house - retuning the radio etc.

sistercas - you'll settle in soon and it'll be second nature. New jobs are always strange for a few weeks.

nmlc - so sorry you're stressed out, it all sounds awful for you.

I have to send a parcel back to Ama*on today so will do that early on I think. Then pampering mum time. She doesn't want to go out anywhere but that may change.

    Anyway - happy Wednesday everyone.

    Morning everyone,

Nmlc - hugs m'dear, you obviously have a very caring heart so make the most of your time off to re-charge batteries.

Very wet here and set to be all day. DOH took the girls out and let me have a little lie-in on my day off, bless him.

Going to poodle round the house this morning and do a few chores, then this afternoon we are going to take Mum to see the Dad's Army film as she really wants to see it, we should be home in time for me to pop over and see Bill, let's hope the rain has cleared up enough for me to ride.

Have a good day all, take care x

    Good morning everyone

It's very wet and windy here this morning and hubby has grumped his way off to work. He was not best pleased when he went downstairs and found Max had shredded his very expensive waterproof mattress for his crate. Never mind, at least it was confined to his crate and not the sofa or anything.

The girls are getting ready for school and I am going to have a quick tidy round as my sister is coming up to see me this morning. She has just moved into a large bungalow which like elona's has 'good bones' but is also firmly stuck in an 80's decor.

My DD15 is staying home today as she has a sore throat and temperature. It's her birthday tomorrow so I hope she feels better tomorrow. The other two have now left moaning about the weather. I don't blame them, they have a fairly long walk to school with a steep hill to walk up. It just makes me laugh that DD14 spends ages doing her hair and makeup and she must look like she's been dragged through a hedge backwards by the time she gets to school.

I will be making pork steaks and mash for tea tonight as we ended up having a cheeky takeaway last night. I need to make a birthday cake as well so I will get on with that once my sister has left.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Hi everyone,

I've not been posting for a few days but have kept up with the thread so belated happy birthdays to those who had them and commiserations to those going through a hard time (Hester and Judi particularly). Does anyone know how Mollie is keeping? She hasn't been around for a while.

I had a lovely Mother's Day - we went with DS and his fiancee's family to the Fitzwilliam museum to see the Egyptian exhibition and then later DD and her DH called in unexpectedly on their way back from the Yorkshire house.

I'm going today to see a friend of DD's to take her the baby quilt I made for her new son so hopefully I will get some cuddles. It's a really horrible morning so I hope it clears a bit before I go.

    Have a good day.

    Morning all

Nmlc big hugs for surviving such a rotten day. I hope today is better.

Gers happy birthday to your Mum. My Mother will be 88 in October. I hope your Mum has a lovely day.

Rain woke me at 4 hammering on the window. Hubby says he's wet before he starts work. Oh dear, that means he's going to be ill by the weekend. Youngest already has a cold so by Friday I'm expecting the pair of them to be quite ill.

Bedding needs to be changed today and I have a few hanging gardens that need to be dealt with.

Ginge needs forcibly ejecting so I'd best get on with it in case she pees on my carpet. She hates the rain.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • Good Morning everyone, it's dry here at the moment but was very wet and windy in the night, it woke me up in the small hours as the rain was battering on the windows and the wind was howling. The weather forecast shows we are in the 'eye' of the system at the moment and that the rest is still to come, deep joy!!! He Who Knows is driving back home this morning having been to DD1 to cover some building work she's having done, hope the roads are not as awful as it looks.

Nothing specific planned for today but I have some ironing to do, I'll be making a Chick pea Dhansak for supper tonight and I have a Cookie walk after lunch if it's not hammering down with rain.

Hope you all have a good day and hope this wet weather passes quickly so at least we can all get outside for a breath of fresh air, Lyn xxx.

Good Morning everyone its bucketing down at the moment and the sky is looking decidedly grey. I am helping DD do several 'tip' runs this morning as she has new bed coming for Jack His bunk beds are getting well past their renewal as he has been in one since the age of one .She has bought a new divan with a pull-out underneath guest bed which will be handy when his pal stays. So we are going to detox his bedroom this morning No doubt we will find god knows what under his pile of rubbish His brother henry only a year younger is totally different as his bedroom is always tidy and he is a very neat little boy and even hangs his blazer up and not chucked on the floor as Jack does :):):).Then after lunch I have a U3A meeting and the talk is about Fracking, plus my subs are due for the year.So its going to be a busy day today.
Happy birthday to anyone celebrating and keep warm and dry if you have to go out
    Cheers JackieO xxx
