New job and Universal Credit - With a twist

Hi all,
I lost my job just before christmas and have been stuck on this Universal Credit crap since. They have ballsed it up numerous times and I've had one and a half payments since November.
I've just been offered a new job having been granted my visa today but thats where the trick question crops up.
I can start tomorrow, but I don't posses the funds to leave the country in order to start it!
Do the DWP or similar operate anything to assist under these circumstances? I know they had grants and so forth years ago but I've no idea and my work coach is currently on holiday!

Congrats on your new job. No, there's nothing like that anymore.
Phone them up and explain the urgency of the missing payments? Put the flight on your credit card?0 -
The automatic £100 Job Grant was abolished 3 years ago.
The Flexible Support Fund now exists. This can help with things such as the first 4 weeks' of travel costs, a suit, haircut etc. It's discretionary and administered by local JCP managers. You could ask but not sure they'll pay for a flight. I suppose it may count as travel costs for a new job.
I've no idea if the Home Office or Foreign Office operate such schemes. Obviously they pay for flights for deportations. There was a limited scheme a decade or two ago, but repatriation is a political hot potato that politicians tend to shy away from- even though some do want to return buy don't have the funds to [I'm not incidentally suggesting you're an illegal overstayer or Jamaican etc].Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0
