Travelex Supercard trial to end

It will depend how you see the meaning of always.
In the same way I could also say use Clarity in Europe. Do they beat Metro Debit cards ??
I think the best thing here is for "fifeken" to ask clarification about this to MSE and post MSE repsonse here.
You certainly know how to twist things.
You said to trust MSE. I agreed and pointed you to an MSE statement that contradicted some of your advice.
The MSE statement was "Specialist overseas credit cards almost always beat their debit card counterparts"
You ignored that and started waffling about the restricted cases where that might not have been the case for you.
Readers of this thread do not deserve to be misled, as you are doing.0 -
- Metro debit card will ALWAYS beat Claritycard for Euros. No hassles for interest avoidance while you are in the foriegn country, when you do not have internet access.
Unless your MB account is overdrawn and you have a Clarity at 12.9%! Or the Creation Everyday card at 12.9%
I joke, but I generally agree with what adindas has written - my above serves only to highlight that there are many variables, all of which might result in us being a few pence or cents better/worse off - is it really that big a deal?
The point is, they're still generally better options than either jamming a LTSB debit card in an ATM abroad, or changing up a grand into USD at LHR an hour before departure!
EDIT - forgive me, LTSB of course doesn't exist any more as a sole entity! But you get my drift!0 -
As I mentioned before there is not any indication that MSE is particually refering to Zero fee Debitcards. Have you asked the MSE and post their reply here ??
MSE is not going to make an obvious mistake. Anyone with good knowledge of currency exchange could easily see that :
- Metro debit card will ALWAYS beat Claritycard for Euros. No hassles for interest avoidance while you are in the foriegn country, when you do not have internet access.
- Supercard linked to Claritycard curreny will almost always (if not always) beat Claritycard for withdrawal of around £300,- if you know how to use it.
There you go again... Opening a brand new current account in a branch a hundred miles away and then making sure I transfer money to it before I withdraw is more inconvenient to me than just transferring money to the Clarity card...0 -

I agree with the gist of most of what they say, but their continual insistence that their way is best for EVERYONE in EVERY scenario is rather irritating.0 -

I'm now ignoring most posts, at least until we can get back to the topic. Travelex Supercard, anyone?0 -

If the Supercard people are able to figure out how to prevent payments being taken from the linked card when the actual transaction is declined due to communication error etc, which then requires laborious interaction with their CS to get the funds reverted - then the mainstream Supercard release may have a future.
Personally I don't even use my Supercard because of the chance of the above happening, however slim, when I have plenty of alternatives - Clarity, Revolut, N&P Visa, Metro, etc, all of which have their own pros and cons according to the circumstances so no need to indulge in complicated comparison here...Evolution, not revolution0 -

Agreed, and my apologies.
Supercard is a good option and will remain one when it's fully launched, as long as it doesn't introduce any dodgy Ts and Cs that were not part of the trial.
Just remember it won't always be the best, but it should be a good all rounder if everything works to plan.0 -
I got the heads up email from Travelex yesterday - no thanks, the newly introduced 2.99% fee for use at an ATM renders it unattractive compared to my Halifax Clarity credit card.
I had a Supercard during the pilot scheme and it worked fine linking it to the Clarity card for hole in the wall transactions in the Canaries etc. - but now, with the above commission charged on ATM usage it offers no advantages.
I'll stay with the N&P Gold Classic account debit card for foreign currency abroad.

I travel to canary wharf quite often and might be able to take advantage of this ATM. Would you mind to reveal this ATM ?? Location, bank name , etc ?? Is it Raphael Bank ??
Would you mind elaborate further about this, Does this ATM apply a visa/master exchange rate if you withdraw cash in foreign currency in the UK exactly the same way as if you were using your zero fee for foreign transaction credit card abroad??0 -

He said the Canaries, not Canary Wharf.
In case it's an autocorrect, there's no advantage using the Supercard for ATM withdrawals unless you're using a credit card that isn't Halifax (and only then if you pay it off immediately.0
