Samsung, and probably other TV manufacturers, are dropping SKYPE on their smart TVs from June 2nd as a result of Microsoft withdrawing support.

Just install it on a tablet, get a Chromecast (£30) and cast the screen. Simple as that!0

Thanks. That might be a problem as it needs a power source and I don't have a spare socket.
Shall have to look closer into how to overcome the problem otherwise I don't get to see my Aussie grandkids.
Just a thought, is there a way of using a Samsung smartphone to do the same thing without an extra bit like Chromecast?0 -
I think the new gen Chromecast runs off of a USB connection. If your TV supports Skype then it probably has at least a couple of USB ports too.
I wouldn't rush out to buy anything until it quits working. Sometimes with things like this support is removed but the "App" stays and keeps working until there is a major change server side. They could push through a change on the day that would cause a lot of them to stop working, but if your willing to go without it for a few days then it might be worth waiting to see what happens.
I think it's a bad move by Microsoft, and some users might find things like Chromecast to be difficult to use.
Quite a few new televisions are now running Android too, so there is a chance that you might be able to just load the Apps fromt he Android Store soon! No hope for old sets ;(.0 -
I'm quite annoyed at this. Recently paid a lot of money for a Samsung camera purely for Skype, and they do this. I feel cheated.0
