Parking Eye success - Gateshead Metro Centre

I wanted to share a success story related to a parking charge.

We parked outside Sports Direct/ The Range at the Gateshead Metro Centre in a car park controlled by Parking Eye. We spent some time in these shops and then went to Ikea opposite. It was a longish shopping trip.

A couple of weeks later I received a PCN from PE for £100 as their ANPR system had clocked the car having spent about 3.5 hours in the car park. There are signs in the car park saying max stay is 3 hours.

Luckily we had kept a receipt from Sports Direct. I appealed the charge on PE's website, using some guidance found on this forum. I made no admission of who was the driver, outlined the shops visited and attached receipt. Today I received an email from PE saying the charge had been cancelled.

If we had not kept the store receipt I am not sure what our chances would have been of getting the charge cancelled.

But well done on the success anyway. Loath as I am to say it, ParkingEye are generally at least fair when it comes to people proving they were customers (e.g. with receipts).

Well done, you played that perfectly and PE are at least one PPC who do cancel if a receipt is over £30. Not that they tell you that on the signs...but we tell you that!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks. One of your posts on another thread helped me with the appeal. By the way, in this case the receipt was for less than £20.

Good stuff. Always worth showing a receipt to these chancers. They hope people will just pay up and won't know they can claim exemption like this and that's why they don't mention it on the signs. Usually we find around £30+ is the magic number but still always worth including a receipt when appealing, as keeper, to PE.
