A generic household bills question
Options
Hi,
I have just bought my first flat, after spending years renting a 2 bedroom flat with a friend.
I am wondering if you could guesstimate my household bills per month for me...?
The flat: brand new (new build), 1 bedroom, 544 square feet, in Isleworth.
Heating: gas
Everything else: electric
So, my bills will be: gas, electric, water.
Council tax and TV license I already know.
Thanks

I should add that I do not work from home, I will only be at home evenings and weekends.
There is a dishwasher that will be used once a week and a washer/dryer also used once a week.0 -
Hot water is also heated by the gas boiler? Those are by far the biggest users of energy in the home.
You can add line rental, broadband, buildings insurance, contents insurance, ground rent, service charges, annual boiler service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I have accounted for insurance, as it is a purpose built block of flats, these are included in the service charge. But yes, the boiler is heated by gas too.0

Look on your EPC, that'll have an estimation for heating/hot water on it.
Everything else is usually negligible.0 -
I happen to have an energy bill from my daughter's one bedroom flat in East Ham, sounds very similar to yours. (brand new, new build in 2012) It covers the period August 2012 to December 2013 (483 days).
Electricity used was 1332kwh. Gas used was 3557kwh. You could annualise those to 1006 and 2688 respectively and crank them into a comparison site.
Edit: Sorry the gas was only for 399 days, so annualised number would be 3253.
Make sure that you have contacted the energy company with whom the builder has signed you up, so that they have an active account in your name. You need to establish yourself as a customer with them before you can consider switching. You will automatically be on their standard (most expensive) tariff.
I hope you managed to correctly identify the gas and electricity meters for your flat, and take readings when you moved in. If you didn't - do so now. (Same applies for water)
When my daughter moved into hers there was no end of confusion over which meter was installed in/connected to each flat, and it took a long time to sort it out.0
