Co-op new account - call fraud team

I applied for the co-op switching offer before the deadline. I had through a provisional acceptance with account no and sortcode, however I've also had a letter to ask me to call them to "clarify some information". It's an 0845 number, so I used No To 0870 to find a landline, after being on hold for 10 mins they told me that I have to call the number on the letter and they can't transfer me. Seriously annoying as the hours are 8am-4pm so I would have to call from my mobile!
Has anyone else had this and do you know why I need to call them? Thanks

How much does your provider charge for 0845?
You can register with 18185 and it will cost you 5p+7p/min via 0808 free access number. Possibly, there are cheaper options.
Also, you can try dialing 0345 instead of 0845, but this isn't guaranteed to work.0 -
FCA Regulations effective 26 October 2015 require an 01, 02, 03 or 080 number. Most banks have changed their 0845 lines over to 03 or 080 numbers.
Try calling the same number, replacing 0845 with 0345. Check their website for the current contact details. It seems the letter contains out of date information.0 -
Thanks. Well I tried calling the 0845 number and there is an automated message that the number is no longer in use and to redial using.... the exact same number I've dialled!!! Perhaps Co-op just don't want me to open an account with them - I'd rather they just declined my application then!!!0

The number for personal account holders is 03457 212 212.
It is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.0 -

If the announcement really gives out the same 0845 number as the one you dialled, I can only imagine that someone was having an off day when they set up the message.0
